Who is organizing the US workshops?

All logistics of the workshops (location, models, payment collection, etc.) are taken care of by Ivan Makarov, Russia-born, but now California-based friend of Elena.  Where needed, Ivan will also translate for Elena during the weeks and months before the workshop, and during the workshop itself, although Elena is now fluent in English.

Where exactly will shooting in California take place?

The exact locations will be finalized in the coming months. When they are final, we'll send out an email to all participants with our recommendations of where to stay. For now, we are looking at several locations in the San Francisco South Bay that are in the forest setting (Los Gatos / San Jose area).

What are the best airports to fly into?

For San Francisco Bay Area workshop, look into flying into San Francisco (SFO), San Jose (SJC) or Oakland (OAK). San Jose will be your closest option, but you may find the best priced deals flying into SFO and OAK, especially when flying in from East Coast or internationally.

What is included in the price of the workshop?

The fees include the class time, transportation to the location of the shoot from the hotel we will recommend, coffee and tea during the in-class portion. The fee does not include any lodging or transportation costs from the airport or lunches and dinners. If you are planning on getting out outside the workshop, we recommend you reserve a rental car, because public transportation in California is limited.

Do you offer refunds?

All payments are non-refundable, unless the workshop is cancelled by Elena herself. In that case we will refund all fees paid by participants. If you do need to cancel after paying the deposit or full fee, the seat is transferable to another photographer on the waiting list. Based on our experience with 2016 and 2017, students had no issues finding replacements through Facebook or our mailing list.

What skill level of photographers are invited to participate?

We encourage photographers from all levels to participate. You can be someone who just picked up the camera this year. You will also learn a lot if you have been shooting for a while and are an advanced level photographer.

What to bring to the workshop?

Bring your camera and your favorite lenses with you (any lenses from 50 to 200mm in length are the best). You will also need a laptop with editing software (Photoshop is what Elena uses) on it if you want to follow along and edit with Elena during workshops second day.

What happens if the weather isn't cooperating?

June in California is usually sunny, but just in case, we'll have several backup plans if it is raining on the day of the on-location shoot.

Besides email, where else can I ask questions to workshop organizers and Elena?

We have a Facebook group where you can ask questions to Ivan or other workshop participants - LINK
